In 2009 Queensland turns 150
As Queenslanders celebrating our Sesquicentenary we reflect on a history of multi-layered cultural encounters. With a National Apology acknowledging the pain of Aboriginal child removals, and an end to the history wars, this is an opportune occasion to reassess the system of government and mission-run institutionalised reserves and dormitory-based education of Aboriginal children. Missionary endeavours had a significant foundational influence on the practical outcomes of state shaped colonial protection policies.
Queensland celebrates 150 years of independence from New South Wales on 10 December 2009. This milestone provides a unique opportunity to celebrate Queensland throughout 2009. Celebrations will engage Queenslanders from every corner of the State. Join in the celebrations today.
